On Nov. 8th the North Jersey Junior Avalanche played the New York Apple Core leading to the Apple Core’s first loss of the season.
During each period one player from each team scored. David Hefferan from the Avalanche scored four minutes into the game causing the Apple Core to regain its focus with Dillon Radin scoring minutes later. Steven Shanley and Brenden Lloyd both received penalties during this period.
In the second period, Apple Core’s Brian Birbrayer scored on a power play eight minutes into the period. Eleven minutes later, Avalanche’s Vinny Addeo also scored on a power play. The period ended 2-2 and a total of four penalties were given out this period.
The third period was off to a slow start. First to score was Andrew Cunningham from Apple Core almost 13 minutes into the period. With almost two minutes to go in the period Avalanche’s Daniel Moore scored on a power play tying the game 3-3 causing the game to go into overtime.
At one minute and eleven seconds, Tal Finberg from the Avalanche scored against the undefeated Apple Core. Apple Core’s goalie, Patrick Cavanaugh, was unable to stop Finberg from scoring. The game ended 4-3 and Finberg had a few words to say about his overtime win.
“It felt really good to get the win. We lost in overtime the game before and a shootout the game before that, so we really needed a win like this. The Apple Core is a good squad and we knew what we were in for, but we stuck to our systems and got the win.”
Peace, love, toodles.
